Active Release Technique (ART) and Functional Range Release (FR) are soft tissue techniques utilized when addressing injuries to muscles, ligaments and joints mostly due to overuse or repetitive micro trauma. These types of injuries will produce tough scar tissues, which will cause pain and a decrease in the range of motion of the involved joint. Scar tissues are disorganized tissues which are weaker than regular uninjured tissues.
Manual therapies such as ART and FR will introduce a mechanical load to the tissue. These loads will produce cellular responses which can ultimately change tissue structures. Soft tissue release will transfer disorganized tissue (disorganized Collagen) into organized tissue which will reduce pain and also increase the range of motion of that joint.
